Tsunami Warning Evacuation of the PSV

Dear Friends and Supporters of the PSV,

As you all noticed, there was a serious Tsunami warning a few days ago and also the PSV had to be evacuated for safety reasons.

Please see below a letter from our English teacher (who is running our English program within the village) which he wrote to his friends and family back in the UK afterwards.

This letter can give you an idea about what it means to be affected  by such a threat.  Thank you Peter for allowing us to share your words with our supporters.

Holidays in the House of PSV Board Member Tom

For the first time in the history of the Phuket Sunshine Village, the PSV was closed for 3 days.

The mothers and other staff members were sent to a well deserved holiday (the first one in the last 3 years!) to Hat Yai.

Most of the kids went home to their parents, relatives or participated in other holiday activities like a sailing camp.

But there were a small group of kids which needed to be cared of. Some of them went to Child Watch Phuket to enjoy a good time there and 21 children of the PSV followed a invitation of our Board Member Thomas Gottschalk to spend the 3 days at his house and with lots of activities.

Tom got help from other Board Members (Franco Ferri, Michael Giger, Frank Couture and Kuhn Vanida) as well as from some child watch staff and very good friends and their Thai wifes to make this 3 days a real holiday for the kids.

The highlight of the 3 days was for sure the trip on a boat, sponsored by Sea Bees Diving, to go to Coral Island and spend the day at the beach with swimming and snorkeling.

All the other days were filled with lots of time in the swimming pool, playing games and watching movies in Toms home theater.

Over all, the 3 days were a full success and the kids hat a lot of fun…

A big thank you to Tom and all friends making this unforgettable 3 days for the kids.

Farewell Party for our first full time volunteer Larissa

Larissa, a volunteer from Switzerland, was volunteering 6 months in the Phuket Sunshine Village.

She was the first volunteer working for the PSV. Larissa lived in the Village with the kids, sharing a room with one of our mothers and dedicating her time every day fully to the children.

Larissa was a great help for our village director Mrs. Nuttisa and a real friend and teacher for our children.

Both, the staff and Larissa, learned a lot from each other during the last 6 months, a real transcultural experience with a great benefit for our children.

Please see some pictures below from the farewell party, the pictures say it all….

Good bye Larissa, we, and in particular the children, will miss you. Thank you very much for your big effort during the last 6 months, good luck for the future and we all hope to see you soon again.

For everyone who is interested in volunteering for the PSV, please read first our information for volunteers, if you think you can meet the prerequisites, drop us a mail and we will bring you in contact with Larissa, to get firsthand information of her impressions and experiences in the village.
